President's Message
Please note after some discussion we decided to put a HOLD on our meetings for the SUMMER months. We will let everyone know our plans later -- likely sometime just before the LABOR Day holiday weekend.

As the calendar has changed from 2010 to 2011 the Tampa Bay Coin Club has also made some changes. The members of the club felt I was capable to lead them in the new year. This was no little thing. Our last President, John held the reins for three years and led the club back from the brink. I can only hope to have the dedication and drive to continue on with what John has done for us -- thank you John.

As I look at the calendar, I see many great meeting ahead.  As a club we will start getting to know each collector and what she/he enjoys collecting and why. Additionally, we will have some educational presentation that will span the coin collecting hobby. I have commitments from a HOBO Nickel carver to come in and show us the art that he creates, and also a collector that has amassed some of the most prized coins in the hobby.

January was a big month for Tampa area coin collectors. We had the largest coin convention in the country come to town.  The F.U.N. show was amazing and exposed many people to the wonderful world of coins. (As an aside, some 140 Boy Scouts turned out on Saturday of the show to attend a presentation about coin collecting - and to earn a "coin collecting" badge.) If you are not a member of the Tampa Bay Coin Club, please come out and attend a meeting. It does not matter if you are male, female, young, old, veteran collector, or new to the hobby, you are welcome.  Please come out for a meeting and join many people sharing stories and experiences of the hobby.

Finally, I just want to say "thank you" and I look forward to a great 2011.

President Gary

Earlier it mentioned that we wanted to do some things from a program perspective that made it interesting for all who attend our meetings. It is extremely difficult to find a speaker for and every meeting.  So starting in January we started looking for three to four people at each meeting to bring in their favorite coin or the best collection of coins or their coins which might have a little history behind them. I know, I know, people are a little reluctant to get up in front of a group BUT people sharing their stories or their knowledge can be a great help to others who might have similar interests.
